Campaign Fund for Soundwatch Vessel a Success!

The Whale Museum’s Soundwatch Boater Education Program successfully raised the funds needed to purchase a new vessel for the program. Sufficient funds were also raised to repair the current program vessel, Raydiance.

Thanks to many individuals and organizations we met our expectations for the vessel campaign!

Kari Koski, director of Soundwatch, was overwhelmed by the support from the community and is moving forward with the purchase of a 19’ SAFE Boat. The Raydiance will also be repaired. Both vessels will be used to help educate boaters and monitor boater behavior around the resident killer whales and other marine wildlife in the Salish Sea this summer. Soundwatch was founded in 1993 to help reduce disturbances to marine wildlife caused by irresponsible boater behaviors. Since then, Soundwatch has become an internationally recognized model for marine stewardship and has been replicated in three different areas where human activities and marine wildlife overlap.

Funds are, of course, still needed to run the program. If you are interested in contributing, please let us know!
