Luna causes big problems for sailboaters
Within one week, L-98 (Luna, the orphaned orca) thoroughly frightened the crews of two sailboats whose boats were the subject of the young whale's attention.
Although the headline in The Province article says Luna "attacked" a 32-foot sailboat, we suspect his intention was to play with it. However, an animal the size of this five-year-old orca can cause serious harm when he throws his weight around. Visit Reunite Luna for the story on the Luna incident with a 37-foot sailboat.
The Canadian Department of Fisheries and Oceans is now discouraging sailboats from entering Nootka Sound.
